Wiarton Travel Guide
Welcome to Wiarton!
Known for being the gateway to the Bruce Peninsula—a popular vacation destination—Wiarton, Ontario is also known forĀ Wiarton Willie, the popular weather forecasting, albino groundhog. The town is situated at the head of the long gash in the Niagara Escarpment known as Colpoys Bay. Wiarton was once a landing area for aboriginals and voyageurs, and later became a lively lumber town. Glimpses of the town's industrial past can be seen in the first-generation architecture found on the town's main thoroughfare, Bedford Street. Today, the town is still bustling and offers many recreational activities. Visitors enjoy the many scenic parks and gardens in and around Wiarton that also allow for fishing and hiking opportunities. The town has plenty of shopping and dining options and of course the not-to-be-missed annual Wiarton Willie Festival. This popular yearly event began in 1956 and has gone from a one-day event to lasting upwards of 10 days. This fun, family-friendly celebration is enjoyed every Groundhog Day in February.Tourist Attractions
